Nekudot is free software, released under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later.
In plain terms, the GPL guarantees you four freedoms: to use Nekudot for anything, to study how it works, to share copies with whomever you like, and to change it and pass your version on - as long as you keep those same freedoms intact for the next person. No fee, no gatekeeping, no fine print.

The license covers the software, not what you draw with it. Whatever you make in Nekudot is entirely yours - it never leaves your browser, and no one has any claim on it.
We don't track anything you draw or make - your work stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. The only thing measured is traffic: this site and the app use Umami to count anonymous page views - rough visit counts and referrers, with no cookies, no personal data, and no cross-site tracking or fingerprinting. Because it sets no cookies and stores no personal data, it needs no cookie-consent banner and is designed to comply with the GDPR.

Nekudot exists because other people shared their work first. With gratitude:
- Harmony, by mrdoob - the connecting-line sketch tool that lit the spark. Several web styles (Sketchy, Web, Shaded, Chrome, Longfur) are ports of its brushes - variations of the neighbour-points connection concept first implemented in The Scribbler by Ze Frank. Nekudot shares Harmony's GPL v3+ license.
- d3-quadtree - finds each point's neighbours fast enough to weave in real time.
- fflate & zod - pack and validate the .nekudot archive you save your work into.
- Vite & TypeScript - the workbench it's built and bundled on.
- Fraunces & Hanken Grotesk - the open-licensed typefaces this site is set in.
